Thanks for visiting this site!
My name is Dr. Tim Wiebe, and I oversee this online presence of the Brookside Institute. The Brookside Institute is an equipping ministry for the church.
A primary way this equipping takes shape is through a series of classes designed to build and/or reinforce foundations of the Christian faith. (Visit our classes page to learn more.) On this site you'll also find a blog intended to support this same priority through posts related to the Bible, theology, and living on mission. I'll also periodically post on miscellaneous teaching tips and philosophy-of-education-stuff. After all, as important as it is to emphasize what we teach, we need to carefully and responsibly consider how we teach as well!
A Little More About Me...
I have served as a pastor in a team ministry environment at Brookside Church since 2006. My current role there is Pastor of Spiritual Formation. Lord willing, I will continue to serve Jesus as He builds His church for decades to come.
Prior to serving in full-time vocational ministry, I attended Grace University in Omaha, NE (B.S., Christian Education, summa cum laude) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL (Master of Divinity, summa cum laude). I am an ordained minister in the Evangelical Free Church of America and a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. Additionally, I received a Doctor of Ministry in Applied Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2022.
Most importantly, I have been married to my wife, Carrie, for more than twenty years (married in 2000). We have four boys and make our home in Omaha, Nebraska.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family (board games and movie nights), going for walks with my wife, reading, reading some more, and grilling (over charcoal). Every now and then I wade into a do-it-yourself project, which I usually end up regretting.

What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus? A Clear, Biblical Picture of Discipleship, by Dr. Tim Wiebe (2024)Here is a link to the book on Amazon. Available in print, e-book, and audio formats.
"Follow me." Jesus's clear call in the first century changed lives and impacted society. Jesus is still calling people to follow Him today. Lives and communities continue to feel this influence and benefit from the difference Jesus makes both in and through His disciples. But what does it mean to follow Jesus? This book focuses on precisely this question, offering a framework for holistic discipleship that is at once deeply biblical, practical, and accessible. Study/discussion questions are included at the end of each chapter. |
Tim Wiebe, "Establishing a Discipleship Pathway for Ministry Programming at Brookside Church, Omaha, Nebraska (DMin Project, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2022).ABSTRACT: This project establishes a discipleship pathway for ministry programming at Brookside Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Chapter 1 presents the ministry context of Brookside Church and the goals of this project. Chapter 2 focuses on the biblical emphasis on discipleship, demonstrating a holistic picture of discipleship from Matthew and clear priorities for discipleship from Acts 1-2. Chapter 3 makes this biblical picture of discipleship concrete—identifying programs aligned with the biblical picture and advocating for access to and movement across these programs. Chapter 4 describes the project itself, outlining the content of the discipleship pathway curriculum and its implementation at Brookside. Chapter 5 evaluates the efficacy of the project in relation to the specified goals. Ultimately, this project seeks to establish a discipleship pathway so the organized life of the church intentionally contributes to “presenting everyone mature in Christ” (Col 1:28).

My goal is for everything on this site and the blog to be consistent with my identity as a follower of Jesus and local church pastor at Brookside Church. If anything expressed here ever challenges that goal, the fault is mine alone. Please graciously call any deficiencies to my attention.
