How Can I Grow As a Follower of Jesus? Biblical, Actionable Practices for Discipleship

Here is a link to the book on Amazon. Available in print and e-book formats.

“How can I grow as a follower of Jesus?”

Is this a question you’re asking right now? Is this a question someone you know is asking? It’s a great question!

“How can I grow?” is not a question to put off until later, nor is it one we ever “check off” as complete. Motivated by God’s grace and moving toward increasing Christlikeness, we can see genuine and continued growth in spiritual maturity — whether you’re taking your first steps of faith or you’ve been following Jesus for decades.

How Can I Grow as a Follower of Jesus? will help you grow by orienting you to spiritual disciplines that are rooted in the Bible, have been time-tested across millennia, and can be practically applied in your life.

Study/discussion questions are included at the end of each chapter.

What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus?  A Clear, Biblical Picture of Discipleship, by Dr. Tim Wiebe (2024)

Here is a link to the book on Amazon. Available in print, e-book, and audio formats.

"Follow me." Jesus's clear call in the first century changed lives and impacted society. Jesus is still calling people to follow Him today. Lives and communities continue to feel this influence and benefit from the difference Jesus makes both in and through His disciples.

But what does it mean to follow Jesus? This book focuses on precisely this question, offering a framework for holistic discipleship that is at once deeply biblical, practical, and accessible.

Study/discussion questions are included at the end of each chapter.

Tim Wiebe, "Establishing a Discipleship Pathway for Ministry Programming at Brookside Church, Omaha, Nebraska (DMin Project, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2022).

Access this material via Southern Baptist Theological Seminary's database here.

ABSTRACT: This project establishes a discipleship pathway for ministry programming at Brookside Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Chapter 1 presents the ministry context of Brookside Church and the goals of this project. Chapter 2 focuses on the biblical emphasis on discipleship, demonstrating a holistic picture of discipleship from Matthew and clear priorities for discipleship from Acts 1-2. Chapter 3 makes this biblical picture of discipleship concrete—identifying programs aligned with the biblical picture and advocating for access to and movement across these programs. Chapter 4 describes the project itself, outlining the content of the discipleship pathway curriculum and its implementation at Brookside. Chapter 5 evaluates the efficacy of the project in relation to the specified goals. Ultimately, this project seeks to establish a discipleship pathway so the organized life of the church intentionally contributes to “presenting everyone mature in Christ” (Col 1:28).

My goal is for everything on this site and the blog to be consistent with my identity as a follower of Jesus and local church pastor at Brookside Church. If anything expressed here ever challenges that goal, the fault is mine alone. Please graciously call any deficiencies to my attention.
